What is Cheebit - Tunes For Off White Desktops?
Tunes For Off White Desktop is a eight track multi-genre album filled with high energy bit-crushed beat’s. The intention of this album was to use as little space as possible so I limited myself to no more than 100 kb a track. This album will be released in (.It) format for download so you can experience its intended way of listening, but will also be available in FLAC for download on my bandcamp and will be on streaming services later this year after the expo!
Why was it made?
Tunes For Off White Desktop is an album that was created with the intention of being compatible with almost any computer that can run a media player or some form of tracker software. The limitation was also to ensure that I was using space effectively and not to bloat the file size. This album was also a way of introducing people who might know much about tracker music or trackers in general. I wanted to shed more light on trackers in this day and age of modern daws and show how using tracker software can change how you make music through my music. I also wanted to improve my skills as a tracker musician because I wasn’t as fluent as I wanted to be with trackers. I have never released anything that I had made from within a tracker and I wanted to change that.
How did I go about making it?
The entire album was made using Openmpt aka Open mod plug tracker. All of the songs are sample based due to file size and accessibility reasons and because using samples is the predominant way of making music on a tracker. I use a few tricks to get the file size down such as downsampling with the control+r command in modplug and also converting to mono, everything is in mono on this album as well as it all being in 8 bit sample resolution I have a video linked below to a brief overview of what my processes were when making a track for this album because I feel it would make more sense that way rather than telling you I’ll show you in hopefully an informative but fun way! The true intention with the video is to show what each of the pages do in modplug and get people familiar with some of the ideas, they may not understand the full concept but will have a very basic understanding.
